Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann has dealt a blow to Arsenal fans by revealing he why he will never join the club.
Griezmann has grown into one of the most sought after players in the world since leading Atletico to a Champions League final and his native France to the final of Euro 2016 last year.
Manchester United thought they had tied up a deal for him last summer, but a transfer ban for Los Rojiblancos meant he stayed put. It is doubtful he will stay beyond the end of the season, though, with Barcelona reportedly circling.
But the player has now ruled out joining Arsenal, despite a huge French connection, citing a failed move to the Emirates Stadium in 2013 in his autobiography.
“I waited, I waited, and I kept waiting … when there was no news, Eric called Grimandi, who said that the manager was still interested in me [and] to keep waiting.
“Finally a few hours before the market closed, he let us know Arsenal would not make a move. ‘I don’t like to be told something and for it not to happen.
“So when Eric told me later that the London club were interested again I told him ‘Forget it, after the blow they gave us.’”
